‘Here’s to strong women, may we know them, may we be them, may we raise them’
To mark International Women’s Day, over a hundred inspirational women in Peterborough were gifted pamper packs on Monday, March 8, as a gesture of gratitude for their efforts.
These women were nominated by local people to appreciate them ‘for their contributions to their families and the wider community of Peterborough.’
The packs were kindly put together by Community First Peterborough, Gladstone Connect at the Iqbal Centre on Cromwell Road, Near Neighbours and the Chinese Community, and were hand-delivered to the women across the city.
Local charities and businesses supported the initiative and donated towards the packs which included crafts, chocolates, a plant pot, wellbeing products and cards and even hand-written letters.
Our Centre Manager hand-delivered packs and said:
“Pamper packs went out to inspirational women across the city who have been nominated by local people because of what they bring to their families or the community.
Having handwritten letters to some of these amazing women myself, I had a glimpse into their lives and what they bring to people around them. It was very touching to get to know these women through the eyes of those who benefit from their hard work and support.
The packs are so well deserved and honouring these wonderful women was an absolute pleasure. Seeing their faces light up, huge smiles and some tears, really just goes to show that a little appreciation goes a long way.
Women have been working twice as hard during the lockdown with caring for our elders, homeschooling, working from home and balancing the work-life, and feeling generally isolated from those who they may reach out to in order to de-stress and socialise with.
Hopefully, showing them that they are an inspiration to fellow residents within the city will make up for the extra pressures they have been carrying but doing an awesome job.”
